Technology

This page provides you links to getting directions for setting up the technology needed for this course.

R and Positron

Note that you must first install R before installing Positron.

R

First install R. You can follow the directions for your operating system on the R Project for Statistical Computing website.

Positron

Next install Positron. You can download Positron from the Positron Download page. Follow the installation instructions for your operating system. If you’d prefer to use RStudio rather than Positron, that is ok with me, but I recommend Positron for this course.

Google AI Pro

Many of the things in this course require the use of AI products created by Google. Please sign up for a Google AI Pro account (you may use whatever email address you like). Normally this costs $20/month, but Google is offering it free for students for one year. To sign up for Google AI Pro, go to the Google AI Pro page and follow the instructions to sign up.

Git & GitHub

You need to create a GitHub account. You may want to use this to show off work to future employers so I recommend using something professional (like your name) as your username. Once you have done this, email it to Dr. Friedlander.

GitHub provides its pro features free to students. To get these, however, you must be a verified learner. This process requires uploading a picture of your school ID and can take a few days. Please click the Get verified button on this page and complete the verification process.
